Lone Star CASA is proud to announce it has received a grant award through National CASA/GAL, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), to support and expand its Order to Participate Program in Kaufman County.
The grant was awarded through the Strategic Planning Demonstration Project, a specialized initiative designed to help CASA programs implement and evaluate innovative services for targeted groups of children and youth. Through this project, Lone Star CASA will focus on serving children involved in child welfare cases who remain in in-home placements.
Traditionally, CASA advocacy is associated with children in foster care. However, many children and families involved in the child welfare system remain safely together while working through services and court requirements. The Order to Participate Program provides advocacy and support for these children and families during a critical time, helping ensure children’s voices are heard and their best interests remain at the center of decision-making.
This funding will allow Lone Star CASA to strengthen and evaluate its approach to serving children in in-home placements, gathering valuable data and insights to better understand the effectiveness of specialized advocacy services. The project will also help identify best practices that can be replicated in other communities seeking to improve outcomes for children and families.
“This grant represents an important opportunity to expand our impact and better serve vulnerable children in Kaufman County,” said Elizabeth Mosman, Operations Director. “By
focusing on children who remain safely at home while involved in the child welfare system, we can provide meaningful advocacy that supports family stability, child well-being, and positive long-term outcomes.”
