Lone Star CASA Awarded NBCUniversal Local Impact Grant to Champion Youth and Strengthen Communities

Dallas-Fort Worth, TX —

For Immediate Release

– Lone Star CASA is proud to announce they have received the NBCUniversal Local Impact Grant—part of a $2.45 million pool awarded to 81 nonprofits nationwide. This funding will empower their advocacy for abused and neglected children in Rockwall and Kaufman Counties, helping expand services, recruit and train more volunteer advocates, and deepen community partnerships.

The grant will specifically help fund Lone Star CASA’s brand-new program Justice-Involved Youth (JIY) aimed at transforming the trajectory of youth involved in the juvenile justice system. This initiative places trained CASA volunteers alongside youth in Kaufman County who are placed on formal probation—offering consistent, trauma-informed, and youth-centered advocacy from the moment of adjudication. Dedicated (JIY) volunteer advocates will do more than monitor progress—they will walk alongside each youth, building trust, understanding their unique needs, and standing as a consistent presence during a time of instability.

“We can’t thank The Comcast NBC Universal Foundation enough for the generous grant that will positively impact youth involved in the juvenile justice system,” said Lone Star CASA Executive Director, Lauren Rowe. “The goal is not only to support compliance with probation requirements—but to invest in each youth’s potential, empowering them to overcome challenges, strengthen relationships, and thrive. It is gratifying to know that Lone Star CASA has the support of foundations like NBCUniversal.”

With this support, Lone Star CASA will be able to expand their reach, recruit and train more volunteer advocates, and ensure that every youth served knows they are seen, heard, and valued. Because when a young person has someone in their corner, the possibilities are limitless.
