August 7, 2026 – Lone Star CASA marked a historic milestone on August 7 as the organization swore in its first class of Justice-Involved Youth (JIY) Volunteer Advocates. The four new volunteers, Alimayu H., Audrey P., Richard D., and Suzie S.—took the oath during a ceremony at the Kaufman County Justice Center, officially beginning their service to youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
Judge Joseph Russell administered the oath and hosted the ceremony, helping celebrate this significant step forward for youth advocacy in Kaufman County.
The Justice-Involved Youth initiative pairs specially trained CASA Volunteer Advocates with young people who are on formal probation in Kaufman County. Through consistent, trauma-informed, and youth-centered support, volunteer advocates provide young people with a trusted adult who will listen, encourage, and advocate for their best interests as they navigate the juvenile justice system and work toward a brighter future.
“We are incredibly proud to welcome our inaugural JIY Volunteer Advocate class,” said Jacob Griffin, Executive Director of Lone Star CASA. “These volunteers have stepped forward to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who deserve to know that someone is in their corner. Their commitment gives youth a chance to turn things around, offer them guidance, and an advocate focused on helping them succeed.”
The JIY program represents Lone Star CASA’s continued commitment to expanding advocacy for children and youth in Kaufman County. Before being assigned to a case, these CASA Volunteer Advocates complete 15 hours of specialized training designed to prepare them to advocate, build relationships with the youth they serve and collaborate with families, caregivers, attorneys, probation professionals, and other members of the support team to help ensure the young person’s needs are addressed.
