Denim & Diamonds

Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood welcomed guests to our first annual Justice is Served event held at Shadowridge Farm in Terrell.  Rockwall County Judges Brett Hall, David Rakow, and Brian Williams, Criminal District Attorney Kenda Culpepper, and Sheriff Harold Eavenson greeted guests as they arrived, and then “served desserts” to these guests.  Gay Becker, Chairman of the event, recognized special members for their contributions to Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and to the abused and neglected children of Rockwall and Kaufman Counties.   Carmona’s Restaurant, Terrell, catered the event, and entertainment was provided by Captain Bud.

Executive Director Lucille Bell presented the Board Member of the Year Award to Jane Stockton, who is in her fifth year of service on the CASA Board and has served as Secretary and Vice-President.  She works at the Car Show and at the 5K and was a member of the Denim & Diamonds Committee. Several years before she became a Board Member, she was a volunteer advocate.

Program Director Vickie Nettleton and Casework Supervisors Michelle Drake and Mary Duffey recognized the following volunteers for their years of service as volunteer advocates:  2 Years:  Rae Cook; Melody Doudney; Michelle Drake; Sarah Gray; Ellen Hairston; Sandy Hanson; Janie Merle; Susie Miller; Sandy  Robinson; Michael Shaw; Betty Shupp, and Susan Tims; 5 Years:  Eva Ann Cunningham; Jo Ann Frank; Bobbie Griffin; Teri Isaacs, and Karla Venters; 7 Years:  Julie Klutts; and 10 Years:  Vickie Nettleton and Jamie Seach.

Casework Supervisor Mary Duffey presented the Tish Verde Volunteer Advocate of the Year Award to Douglas Pritchard, who has been an active volunteer advocate for four years and has volunteered to work on two cases simultaneously.  He spends quality time with his “children” and attends all hearings in order to testify ensuring that the judge is informed.  Doug also volunteers at Cars for CASA and the CASA Superheroes 5K.
