Board Member of the Year Scarlet Harper with husband, Dempsy

Lone Star CASA’s second annual Justice is Served event was held May 9 at The Victorian House in Kaufman. Kaufman County Judges Bruce Wood, Michael Chitty, David Lewis, Criminal District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley, Rockwall County Judges Brett Hall, David Rakow, and Brian Williams, Criminal District Attorney Kenda Culpepper, and Sheriff Harold Eavenson greeted guests as they arrived, and then “served desserts” to these guests. Terry Peters, Chairman of the CASA Board, recognized special members for their contributions to Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and to the abused and neglected children of Rockwall and Kaufman Counties.

Executive Director Lucille Bell presented the Board Member of the Year Award to Scarlet Harper, who is in her second year of service on the CASA Board and is currently serving as Treasurer. She works at the Car Show, the 5K, other activities of the board, including the Justice is Served Committee.

Program Director Vickie Nettleton and Casework Supervisors Michelle Drake and Mary Duffey recognized the following volunteers for their years of service as volunteer advocates: 2 Years: Sharon Chapman, Phyllis Hulse, Karly Lindsley, Abel Mojica, Debbie Ray, Janet Richmond, and J. D. Smith; 5 Years: Jeanne Bruce, Chris Hoffmeyer, Jan Johnson, and Doug Pritchard; 7 Years: Mike Candler.

Volunteer of the Year Melody Doudney with Casework Supervisor Michelle Drake

Casework Supervisor Michelle Drake presented the Tish Verde Volunteer Advocate of the Year Award to Melody Doudney, who has been an active volunteer advocate for three years and has volunteered to work on three cases, one involving six children who have all been adopted; the other two were companion cases – a teenage mother and her son. Melody spends a lot of time with her “children” and attends hearings in order to testify ensuring that the judge is informed.
